THREE FOUNTAINS RESORT

On the N8, 10km from Ladybrand

Maqsood Kahn is a family man “I have 4 children and one legal wife” he quips. He is also a forward-thinking businessman. “I like different things. I like getting involved in different businesses”.

This thinking has led him to progress from establishing a school, The Three Fountains Resort, and now an EV charging station. The border between South Africa and Lesotho is no barrier to Maqsood.

“My other business is the Maseru Private Academy on the other side of the line that divides the Eastern Free State from the mountain kingdom of Lesotho,” says Maqsood, who also owns a Vodacom Dealership.

Right now, Three Fountains Resort is where the action is. “Our restaurant is open 7 days a week. We offer excellent food:  from Asian to Indian to pap en vleis. It’s all good” says Maqsood with pride. Three Fountains is on the N8 between Thaba Nchu and Ladybrand.

Maqsood has had big plans for Three Fountains – which is named for the three natural springs that originated on the property – since he bought it in 2018. “Ever since I was a kid I wanted a farm, with the freedom to do whatever I want” he chuckles.

These plans include a Muslim school and hostel that will accommodate 1200 children.

At present Three Fountains doesn’t offer accommodation to guests, but as soon as the Zero Carbon Charge station is operational overnight facilities will be developed.

“I had no knowledge of Electric Vehicles” confesses Maqsood “but when Joubert Roux of Zero Carbon Charged walked in unannounced I immediately realized there was synergy. He is offering a quite different product of the future and Three Fountains is conveniently situated on the highway.”

Maqsood loves the idea that the proposed solar farm will contribute to alleviating the electricity crisis in SA. He also loves the prospect of the additional business the charging station will bring to Three Fountains.

“ I am very eager for the admin processes to be finalized,” he says “It’s wonderful becoming involved in another completely different business”

If you’re heading towards the Lesotho Highlands or the cherry orchards of the Eastern Free State, pop in a say hello to Maqsood at Three Fountains Resort – it’s about 10 km before you reach Ladybrand
