FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
We estimate that there will be about 200 000 electric vehicles in South Africa by 2027. In addition, most manufacturers will stop making internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles in 2030, drastically increasing the uptake of electric vehicles. The vast majority of new vehicles sold after 2030 will be electric.
To answer this question, one must look at the data and compare the cost of buying and running a pair of EVs against their fuel-powered counterparts — including purchase prices, energy costs, maintenance charges, tax credits, and depreciation. The conclusion is that electric vehicles are cheaper to own and operate.
Electric charging is cheaper. As a rule of thumb, the cost of charging an electric vehicle is roughly two-thirds of the cost of filling a car with petrol.
The planned first phase includes 100 charging stations across the country, with plans to roll out an additional 50 stations in the near future.

Our future plans include an app that will make it easy to locate a charging station near you.

It takes between 20 and 60 minutes to charge your vehicle.
No it doesn’t. The energy used by Zero Carbon Charge is derived from renewable sources such as the sun and the wind. Therefore, the charging stations will operate as normal during load shedding.
“Range anxiety” is a concern for many drivers of electric vehicles. Zero Carbon Charge is working towards eliminating this source of stress by providing charging stations at least every 150km along all of South Africa’s major routes.
