Located on the N12 between Klerksdorp and Wolmaransstad, at the Leeudoringstad turnoff, CHARGE Wolmaransstad is your convenient on-route charging destination for electric vehicles (EVs).

This ultra-fast, off-grid, solar-powered charging station is designed and built entirely with the needs of EV drivers in mind (no petrol/diesel sales)  Six ultra-fast chargers stand ready to receive passenger and commercial EVs up to 8 tons.  The station will be open all hours of the day and night, every day of the week, with 24/7 surveillance that ensures it is always safe and secure.

Ultra-Fast

Just like filling a car with petrol, the CHARGE charging stations provide a stop-and-charge experience that gets drivers back on the road as soon as possible. Depending on your EV model, our ultra-fast charging typically boosts a battery from 10% to 80% in about 25 minutes. Liquid-cooled cables deliver higher power levels without overheating, making the charge even more efficient.

Off-grid

CHARGE Charging stations are powered by solar energy and therefore completely independent from the national grid. They offer a resilient, stable charge regardless of grid instability and unpredictable electricity prices. All energy is generated on-site, with power storage at each location and a modular design that allows for scalability as demand increases.

It is critical that we use renewable energy if we want to reach South Africa’s net zero target of carbon neutrality by 2050. Solar-power cuts down on carbon emissions, augmenting the ecological benefits of an electric vehicle, and delivering us into a greener future. Charging an EV from a grid powered by fossil fuels increases C02e emissions in the long-term, reducing an EV’s true environmental benefits. Each EV recharged at CHARGE charging stations could save 5.8 tons of C02e per year.

National

CHARGE Wolmaransstad is the first of a national network of 120 charging stations, all built 150 km apart on major roads, ensuring EV drivers in South Africa do not experience range anxiety. This is phase 1 of the CHARGE rollout, with phase 2 expanding according to power demand, and targeting more regional and urban routes.
